Lary Norin is a licensed USCG captain and avid saltwater fisherman. Lary started freshwater fishing at a very young age, growing up in southern NY and saltwater fishing while visiting his grandparents in SE Florida.
Lary has been married to his wife Stephanie since 2000. They have one son born in 2005 who is named after Lary’s fishing grandfather Fred. Lary’s grandmother taught him not to waste any fish, especially the head. His dad taught him how to filet a fish. Lary honed his fish cutting and cooking skills in college when attending Johnson & Wales University. He earned an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelors Degree in Food Service Management.
Soon after graduating in 1998 Lary switched careers and bought a small indoor rock climbing gym, Rhode Island Rock Gym, with a friend from college. Now with almost 10 gyms and almost 200 employees Lary has some time to go fishing. Lary has been fishing saltwater in RI for almost 30 years, starting-out fishing from shore, then party boats and charters.
Lary was a member of RISAA (Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association), won Angler of the year 3 years in a row from 2013-2015 and bought his first boat a NorthCoast 20CC named Rock and Reel. Lary had that boat for over 5 years before getting his NorthCoast 28CC named Rock and Catch.
With a commercial fishing license from RI DEM, a captain’s license from the USCG, and a 6 pack license for charter boat fishing in RI and MA, Lary enjoys bringing folks offshore for fishing trips. Lary loves to catch a huge variety of species of fish, and fish with a variety of different anglers from all over the world. He loves eating fish and sharing his fishing and culinary creations with others.
